Oil, Boom, More Oil, Game. That's the order in which all this happened. And prepare yourself for one of our longest and boringest (a word) article.
Like 70 Days Ago, BP (British Petroleum, also advertised as "Beyond Petroleum" for its advances in wind power and environmentally-friendly uses of energy during the middle-late 2000's) oil rig Deepwater Horizon, located in the Gulf of Mexico, exploded due to technical errors, which created the largest environmental tragedy in the United States of America- larger than the Exxon-Valdez spill located along the Alaskan border, which previously held first place. The spill also killed 11 workers opon the rig.
The game uses "DP" instead of BP for the company who owns the rig. Once you press "Start" to go to the menu, the rig that was at the "Start" menu explodes and takes you to the menu. During gameplay, you must take submarines and destroy the oil blobs, using money to buy different ways to destroy the blobs. If oil gets through, you lose a life, and destroying blobs will earn you more money. While blobs come out of the main pipe, a ticker at the top runs through, making some occasional puns towards BP, even one pun toward former Republican Vice-Presidential nominee and former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. The ticker has a logo along it, showing "DNN", instead of the CNN news network.
The game is 80 Microsoft Points, rounding up to $1 USD, and is available in the 'Indie Games' section of the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. All proceeds of the game are said to go to www.healthygulf.org. But still, the game takes a much more comical stand than serious stand.
Stephen Totilo of Kotaku has some footage of the game. Go check it out, it's much more interesting than our long, political, and factual article.
