Rock Band 3 is official. Pull out teh wallets.
When Rock Band entered the race for best music rhythm game that uses plastic instruments against Guitar Hero in 2007, the series took off, which later led to Rock Band 2, and other spin-offs based on individual bands, such as The Beatles: Rock Band. With over hundreds of songs that are downloadable at the in-game Rock Band Marketplace that average a 80 Microsoft Point range, Rock Band is a hit, and continues to be, even to this day. Earlier today, Electronic Arts, Rock Band series publisher/distributor, announced on its Facebook page that Rock Band 3 is in fact reality, and was even said it "will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again." With recent money problems at EA (like that's not new with anyone), even announcing that they'd like to distribute less games, we can still see why the Rock Band series in there. Considering it costs them millions of dollars to make Rock Band, it still takes a large amount to create the 'instruments' for the game, which makes a $60 game into a $150 bundle. Prior to all the money issues, EA has received millions from the Rock Band series by Harmonix & MTV Games, so as of right now, don't worry about the Rock Band future- the real problems are happening at Neversoft and Activision with Guitar Hero.
Just this year, EA has published over 5 games, including development of several games from studios that EA owns, which is more than expected from a publisher to this day. Although EA is considered to be the "distributor" of the Rock Band series, EA still takes care of most of the costs to get the game out, compared to the newly created MTV Games, who is the official publisher of the series. The Rock Band series is expected to have less titles this year, but the only two that are known so far is Rock Band 3, and Green Day: Rock Band. |
